RED Guideline

The RED Directive 2014/53/EU (RED = Radio Equipment Directive) applies to radio equipment sold or operated in the European Union.

Since its introduction in 2017, all radio equipment must comply with the requirements of the RED Directive. Manufacturers are obliged to prepare a risk analysis and assessment and to document it in the technical documentation.

The purpose of the directive is to ensure the safety of people and animals and to ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and the effective and efficient use of the radio spectrum.

In our EMC laboratory, we carry out the necessary follow-up measurements in the radiated or conducted area and inform you about the verification required according to the RED Directive.

Affected equipment

The RED directive is relevant to all equipment that includes a certified radio module.

This also includes combined equipment. Combined equipment is the combination of a radio installation and a device that falls within the scope of one or more other directives.

Requirements of the RED Directive

Artikel 3.1

Protecting the health and safety of people and animals
Appropriate level of electromagnetic compatibility according to Directive 2014/30/EU (EMC).

Effective and efficient use of the radio spectrum
The following tests must be able to be proven:
- RF Output Power
- Transmitter unwanted emissions in the out of band domain
- Transmitter unwanted emissions in the spurious domain
- Receiver spurious emissions
